Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Andr3s LLC, 502 W 7th St, Ste 100, Erie, PA 16502, United States ("we", "us"), the company that makes Gretl. By creating an account or using the app you accept them. If you don't, don't use Gretl.

Not medical advice

This is the important one. Gretl is a wellness tool provided for informational purposes only — it is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and nothing it says is medical advice. Its calorie and macro figures are estimates derived from a published formula and from what you tell it; they can be wrong. If you have or suspect an eating disorder, diabetes, or any other condition, if you take medication that affects appetite or metabolism, or if you're pregnant, talk to a qualified professional and follow their guidance over anything in this app. Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something Gretl told you. You are solely responsible for the decisions you make based on the app's information, and you acknowledge and accept all of this when you check the box creating your account.

The limits we build in

Some of what Gretl does is refuse. These are not settings, and nothing you can enter — a goal, a pace, a custom target — turns them off. They are enforced on our servers, so they hold even if the app on your device is modified:

• A calorie floor. Gretl will not set, store, or coach toward a daily target below a safe minimum for your body. That minimum is the higher of a fixed lower bound and your own estimated resting energy need (BMR) — it is never below what your body uses at rest, whatever pace you pick.
• No deficit at a low body weight. If your height and weight put you at or below a BMI of 18.5, or if a goal weight you set would, Gretl will not calculate a weight-loss target. It computes maintenance instead and tells you why. This is not a judgment about you; it is a line the app does not have the standing to cross.
• A capped rate of loss. Where a deficit is appropriate, the pace is limited to roughly 1% of body weight per week, and to whatever still leaves the target above your floor.
• The coach will not help you eat less than that. Gretl's AI coach will not design, price out, or endorse an intake below your floor, will not plan fasting or meal-skipping to compensate for eating, will not treat exercise as a way to cancel food, will not give any method of purging, and will not tell you what you should weigh. Asking as a hypothetical, on behalf of someone else, or while claiming professional supervision does not change any of it.

We would rather these get in your way occasionally than not be there when they matter. If you need something outside them, that is a conversation for a doctor or a registered dietitian, who can do what an app cannot.

Eating disorders, and where to get real help

Calorie tracking is genuinely useful for a lot of people and genuinely risky for some. If food, eating, or how you feel about your body has become distressing — or if tracking is making it worse rather than better — please talk to someone who does this for a living. You do not have to be sure anything is wrong to reach out, and you do not have to stop using anything before you do.

In the United States, the National Alliance for Eating Disorders runs a free helpline answered by licensed clinicians, Monday to Friday:

If you are outside the US, or if you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or a local eating-disorder organization. We are not a crisis service and cannot provide one.

Your account

You're responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Give us accurate information — the app's arithmetic is only as good as the stats you enter.

Gretl is for adults 18 and over. This is not only a rule about who may agree to these terms — the Mifflin-St Jeor equation the app computes with was derived from adults, and it has no term for growth, so it does not describe a body that is still growing. We would be showing a number produced by the wrong formula. The app will not calculate a target for an age under 18, and both store listings are rated accordingly.

What's free, and what Gretl Pro adds

Gretl is free to use. Your history, trends and charts, weigh-ins, water, the watch apps, exporting your data, and re-logging anything you've saved as a favorite are free and stay free — none of them costs us anything to run.

What's limited is talking to Gretl, because every message runs an AI model we pay for. A free account gets 3 messages a day. Messages sent from Siri or a watch come out of the same allowance. The count resets daily, and logging a saved favorite never uses one, because it doesn't ask Gretl anything.

Gretl Pro raises that to 50 messages a day — a ceiling that exists to stop abuse and runaway cost, not to ration normal use — and unlocks the adaptive check-in, which adjusts your calorie target from your own logged intake and weigh-ins. The coach is a wellness assistant, not a general-purpose AI; using it for unrelated tasks, or trying to bypass its limits or safety rules, is a misuse of the service and we may restrict access for it.

Gretl Pro subscriptions

Gretl Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered in two lengths:

• Gretl Pro Monthly — one month, renewing monthly. US$7.99 per month.
• Gretl Pro Yearly — one year, renewing yearly. US$34.99 per year.

Prices shown are for the United States. Prices are set per country by the App Store and Google Play and will differ elsewhere; the exact price in your currency, including any tax, is always shown in the app before you confirm the purchase, and again by the store at the moment of purchase. Where this page and the purchase screen ever differ, the purchase screen is what you are charged. Each period gives you the Gretl Pro features described above for its full length.

Free trial

New subscribers get a 7-day free trial. The stores decide eligibility and enforce the dates. The trial is available once per Apple ID (or Google account) across both plans — trialing one plan uses it up for the other. If you buy a subscription while a free trial is still running, the unused part of that trial is forfeited. Cancel before the trial ends and you are not charged.

Billing and renewal

Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends. We never see or handle your card details — Apple and Google are the sellers of record for these purchases and process all payments.

Canceling

You manage and cancel the subscription in your store account, not in Gretl — we cannot cancel it for you:

• iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Gretl.
• Android: Google Play Store → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Gretl.

Canceling stops the next renewal; you keep Gretl Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for, and then return to the free allowance with all of your data intact. Two things worth knowing: deleting the app does not cancel a subscription, and neither does deleting your Gretl account — both are outside the store's control, so cancel in the store first if you're leaving.

Price changes and refunds

If we change the price, the App Store or Google Play will notify you in advance and will not renew you at the higher price without your agreement, in accordance with their rules. Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, under its policy, not by us — Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Google through the Play Store. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, your statutory right to withdraw from a purchase applies against the seller of record, which is Apple or Google. Email us anyway if something has gone wrong and we'll help you sort it out.

Acceptable use

Use Gretl for your own health tracking. Don't use it to break the law, don't try to break into it or into anyone else's account, don't attempt to extract other users' data, don't share or resell your account, and don't use it to pursue a goal that is dangerous to you. In particular, don't try to work around the limits described above — by writing to our API directly, by modifying the app, or by prompting the coach into advice it is built to decline. Those limits exist for the people they protect, and we may restrict access to an account that is being used to get around them.

Your content

What you log is yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service for you — to store your entries and to pass your messages to the AI model that powers the coach (see the Privacy Policy for who that is). We claim no ownership of it and don't use it to train anything.

Availability, and ending things

Gretl is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't promise it will always be available, or that its estimates will be accurate. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages, or for any health outcome arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory rights as a consumer.

You can stop at any time and delete your account from Settings, which erases your data (see the Privacy Policy). Remember to cancel an active subscription in your store as well. We may suspend or end an account that violates these terms; if we end a paid account for reasons other than your breach, you can request a pro-rata refund of the unused period through the store you bought from.

Apple

On iOS, the license to use the software itself is Apple's Standard End User License Agreement — the "Licensed Application End User License Agreement" published at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula — which applies to your copy of Gretl in addition to these terms. These terms are not that license and do not replace it. They cover the service: what Gretl does, what Gretl Pro costs, how the subscription renews and how you cancel it, what we do with your data, and the limits described above. Where the two ever conflict on a question about the software license itself, Apple's agreement governs.

This agreement is between you and us — not with Apple, which is not responsible for the app or its contents. Your license to use Gretl is a non-transferable license to run it on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Gretl; we provide support at support@gretl.ai. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price you paid for it, if any; to the fullest extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability, regulatory, and intellectual-property claims. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of service when using Gretl. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Google Play

On Android, Gretl is distributed through Google Play and subscriptions are sold by Google under the Google Play Terms of Service. This agreement is between you and us; Google is not a party to it and is not responsible for the app. Support is ours, at support@gretl.ai.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; if a change is material we'll say so in the app before it takes effect, and a change to subscription pricing or terms will never apply to a period you have already paid for. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules; if you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country.
